Easy Dog Trick
An easy dog trick for you!
The best way to teach your dog a new trick is to make it fun
and rewarding for him. Use lots of praise and small treats
to reward your dog.
You should only concentrate on one trick per week.
Once you start your dog's training, you will need to
practice the new trick a few minutes every day.
It's a very easy dog trick if you add the training into your
dog's greetings every day. This also will seem less like
work to you and your pet!
Your pet will look forward to performing for you. Again,
always lots of praise!
After adding a second trick, practice both every day. And so
on. It won't take long for your dog to forget these new
tricks if you don't keep practicing them.
Practice a new trick only a few minutes at a time. You never
want your dog to get bored when learning tricks.
The Sit
Have your dog at your left side. Say "sit" as you pull up on
the leash with your right hand, and gently "push" his rear
end down with your left hand. This "push" is only a gentle
guiding. As soon as he is in the sitting position, give
praise! Do this several times, and he will understand what
"sit" means.
If you have a very large dog that simply refuses when you
try to push his rear end down, you could stand in front of
him (facing him), say "sit" as you lift his face up with
your hands and start to walk toward him (almost into him)
and push his head back just an inch or so. The combination
of his head going up and back and his body starting to go
back to avoid you walking into him should "push" him right
into a sit position. Then give lots of praise!
Dogs love to learn and work for you. They just do not
understand what you want until they are taught.
The "sit" can easily be added to your dogs greeting each
day, along with a "hand shake".
The Hand Shake
Start by having your dog "sit". Say, "Shake hands," and take
his paw with your hand. Hold his paw and say, "Good dog!"
Let go of his paw. Do this a few times every day.
After a while, say, "Shake hands," but don't take his paw.
See if he raises his paw by himself. If not, keep showing
him what to do by saying, "Shake hands," and taking his paw
with your hand. Always giving him praise while shaking!
An easy dog trick can simply be any trick you like..
Show your dog what you want with a command(always use the
same command).
Then offer praise and rewards...
Dogs love to learn. Tricks keep your dog alert and
energetic.
They give your dog a chance to play and have fun.
